An excellent turnout of 96 anglers, just 4 short of a sell out. Conditions on the day was a light breeze, showers and a high of around 20C.
Winner on the day was Fran O’Rielly (Frenzee / Bag’em) who drew peg 31 on the Match Lake.
Fran caught fishing shallow at 13m with hard pellet and later switched to his edges with worm hook baits over ground bait, landing quality carp and F1’s, weighing in at 177-12-0.
Fran gets a second chance at the big money final having previously qualified for this prestigious event.
Second overall and narrowly missing out for the grand final was Paul Cook (Frenzee) from peg 46 on the Match Lake.
Paul in all fairness, had a slow start but midway through the match, found big carp feeding down his edge.
Fishing at the start on the short pole and catching a few shallow, then switching to his edges presenting dead reds over ground bait landing 171-15-0.
Paul is rewarded with a semi-final place which will be fished on September 9th at Larford Lakes.
Third placed Tom Need drew peg 36 on the Match Lake catching short on the pole and pellet plus a few fish to the method feeder.
Tom’s weight of 158-12-0 of carp and F1’s secures a place in the September semi final with a big shot of reaching the final.
Fourth overall was Phil Canning from Match Lake peg 4.
Phil lost a few fish to the lily beds which may have cost him a grand final placing. Fishing at 13m with hard pellet to depth, Phil landed 158-1-0 of carp and F1’s.
Fifth to the frame was Barry Byrd (Dot’em Down) from peg 38 on the Match Lake.
Baz fished the pole long a shallow with pellet to bag 135-12-0.
Sixth overall was Dominik Gaczynski (Burt Baits) from peg 40 on the Match Lake with 133-8-0.
Dominik caught on both the method feeder and down his edge with dead reds over groundbait.
