Covey Lakes 1-6
Heavy rain for 3 solid days put colour on all the lakes and dropped the water temperature considerably.
Also a strong north westerly wind made for difficult conditions for the 83 strong field of anglers.
Winner today was Andy May (MAP/Dynamite) who drew fancied peg 126 on Covey 5.
Andy chose to approach his match fishing hard banded 4mm pellet at 3 feet and also shallow.
He was rewarded with a fine bag of prime F1’s and carp to weigh in 162-02-00.
Andy is now in two major finals having recently qualified for Fish O Mania. The win today puts Andy in the Golden Reel Grand final in September and a shot at the massive £50,000 winners purse.
Second on the day was Chris Weeder Snr (St Helens Tackle & Bait) who drew peg 121 on covey 5.
A peg that Chris was familiar with having drawn it a few days before and winning from.
Chris finished the match less than 4lbs behind the winner with a weight of 158-08-00. Chris fished shallow with maggot and down his edges with paste over micro pellets.
Third placed Lee Bennett (Preston /Sonu NW) drew peg 105 on covey and clearly had plenty of fish showing shallow.
Lee targeted them with maggot shallow and later down his edges and to depth to finish the day with 130-09-00.
4th overall was Wayne Kearney (Tricast) with 127-02-00.
Wayne targeted the carp down his edges for the full five hour match catching on maggot hook baits over ground bait.
5th to the frame was Sam Slocket (Preston) who drew peg 101 on Covey 5.
Sam fished maggot shallow and down his edges fishing over groundbait. Sam finished the day with 124-10-00 of carp and F1’s.
Sixth overall was Matt Hale (Mossella) with 122-11-00 from peg 111 on Covey 5.
Matt’s attack was Maggot over ground bait down his edges.
Our thanks to the team at Partridge Lakes for hosting a superb qualifier as always.
Next qualifier – Larford Lakes, Saturday 15th June, draw 9am and Decoy Lakes Wednesday 19th June.
