The field of anglers today anglers arrived at Barston facing very heavy rain which lashed down all day and was also coupled with a stiff wind making for very unpliant conditions indeed.
Highs of just 14C which resembled autumn conditions rather than high summer.
All that being said, the anglers on both banks caught very well with more than a dozen breaking the 100lbs mark.
Winner today was Phil Canning (Frenzee / Spotted Fin) who drew peg 27 on the river bank.
Phil caught early on bomb and teabag at distance and later switched to the method with waffter fished at 50m.
But the last two hours were the most productive when Phil switched to his 30m line with method landing over 150lbs in the last two hours of the match.
Phil finished the day with 207-8-0 securing his place in the September 14th Grand Final.
Second on the day was Martin Tayloe (H.T. Angling) from peg 124.
Martin fished the method casting down the reed edge to land an all carp catch of 154-12-0 to pellet and waffter hook baits.
Third placed Rob Wooton drew peg 13 on the River Bank landing 153-0-0 of carp and bream to method long with waffter hook baits.
His carp catch included fish to 15lbs.
Fourth overall was Lee Farmer ( Tom Thick Baits) from peg 16.
Lee fished short with the method and pellet hook bait to land 146-8-0.
Fifth in the frame was James Evans (Solihull AC) from peg 25.
James kept it simple, fishing bomb & pellet constantly pinging over the top to record a weight of 139-6-0.
Sixth in the frame was Paul Cook (Frenzee) from peg 19.
Paul fished the method long for most of the day but did find some late carp shorter in the last hour boosting his weight to 138-8-0
All Pauls fish came to boilie hook baits.
Our thanks to Nigel and all the Barston staff for hosting an excellent qualifier.
