Lakes Match, Specimen & Arena.
Seriously hot conditions with temperatures of 32C, little or no breeze and a full field of 100 anglers was always going to make for a difficult qualifier.
That being said, Mikey Williams (Guru) broke the match lake record with a massive 401-8-0 of carp and F1’s from peg 30 on the Match Lake.
Mike fished the pole shallow with dead reds and casters for most of the match, bagging 130lbs in the first hour.
Later switching to his edges, fishing corn over ground bait, qualifying in style and smashing the lake record!
Mike progresses to his third Golden Reel Grand Final and certain to be one of the favourites to pick up the £50K and prestigious title.
Second on the day was Paul Jones from peg 31 on the Match Lake.
Paul weighed in 209-4-0 of carp and F1’s, catching quality carp shallow and later down his edges, fishing meat over ground bait.
Paul qualifies for the September 9th semi final.
Third placed Martin Harrell drew peg 33 on the Match Lake, catching carp shallow and later on the method feeder with pellet to record a weight of 160-2-0 and a semi final placing.
Fourth to the frame was David Sandford from peg 24 on the Arena Lake.
Dave fished his edges with meat over ground bait recording 157-0-0 of big carp.
Fifth placed James Evans (Solihull AC) drew peg 36 on the Match Lake and fished bomb & pellet landing carp and F1’s to weigh in 145-6-0.
Despite these very difficult conditions, 11 weighs of over 100lbs were recorded, along with that massive 401lbs record breaker.
Larford host another qualifier on Wednesday July 1st.
Qualifier – Mikey Williams
Semi finalists – Martin Harrell & Paul Jones.
