Specimen & Match Lakes
Severe rain for a week prior to this latest qualifier raised the level of the Specimen Lake by more than 10”.
Such heavy rain was certain to effect the fishing but surprisingly weights were very respectable across both lakes. In fact there were 10 weights over 100lbs, backed up with some impressive section wins.
Winner today was local rod Jordan Holloway (Preston) who drew peg 82 on the Specimen Lake.
Jordan fished short on the method with corn and pellet hook baits and later down the edge on the pole with corn over groundbait.
He was rewarded with carp to 18lbs weighing in a very impressive 174-14-00, providing him a finalist placing in the September Final. Jordan has also recently qualified for the Fish O Mania final, so now has a shot at two major finals which could pocket him a massive £100,000.
Second on the day was Les Marshall (Dynamite Baits) who drew peg 64 on the Specimen Lake.
Les started his match on the method feeder, finding some quality carp to waffter hook baits. Later in the match, Les switched to his edges, fishing dead reds over groundbait.
His edge tactics accounted for 8 carp all in double figures which boosted his last hour by more than 100lbs to finish the day with 154-03-00.
Third on the day was Simon Fry (Garbolino) who drew peg 32 on the Match Lake.
Simon fished down his edges close to the lily beds so had to beef up all his gear to cope with the size and strength of the carp he was catching. Simon fished dead reds over ground bait to land an impressive 154-03-00.
Fourth in the frame was Dave Roberts (Tricast / Bait Tec) with 129-02-00.
Dave drew peg 8 on the Match Lake and fished short on pellet and down his edges with dead reds over ground bait.
Fifth overall was Paul Cook (Frenzee) from peg 18 on the Specimen Lake.
Paul fished the duration of the match on the method feeder landing 119-08-00.
Sixth to the frame was Dale Shepherd from peg 28 on the Specimen Lake with 118-13-00.
Dale fished bomb and pellet for an all carp catch.
Our thanks to Larford Lakes for hosting a superb qualifier.
