Conditions today were good with highs of around 21C, a gentle SW breeze with clear skies and sunshine all day.
Clearly carp could be seen everywhere swimming shallow in numbers, so the plan of attack in general was fish shallow.
Winner today and progressing to his first Golden Reel Final was Barry Byrd who drew fancied peg 124.
124 had not produced a winning weight for some time, but was bang on form for this important qualifier.
Barry started the day fishing the bomb at distance with PVA bag loaded with pellet catching a few early carp and skimmers.
Later switching to the 16m pole with pellet shallow and slapping, Baz was quickly into some quality carp finishing the day with 239-6-0 and the all important finalist spot.
Second on the day was Carl Brooks from peg 26 on the river bank.
Carl fished all day at 16m with the pole and pellet shallow landing 141-4-0. Carl qualifies for the September Semi – Finals.
Third overall and also qualifying for the Semi Final was Wayne Sharman (Lanes/ Matrix).
Wayne drew peg 123 and started on the method feeder long catching a few carp and skimmers. Later switching to his 16m line on the pole shallow to finished the day with 133-6-0.
Fourth overall was John Jones (Middy / Burt Baits) from peg 43.
John weighed in 88-14-0, all caught on bomb & pellet fished at distance.
Fifth to the frame was Paul Fox from peg 32 with 73-0-0 of carp all caught shallow and slapping with banded pellets.
