Qualifier number 11 took place at the Heron Brook fishery in Staffordshire. The field faced a muggy and breathless day with temperatures rising to 25C with little or no breeze.
Fish had spawned the previous week so conditions were very much against the anglers on the day.
The complex however, fished very well with 16 weights over 100lbs recorded.
Winner on the day was Stoke-on-Trent angler Paul Gibson (Nathan’s Tackle) who has recently qualified for the Fish O Mania final.
Drawing peg 17 on the Canal Lake, Paul opted to fish caster shallow and corn down his edges to record a winning weight of 157-02-00.
Paul now has a shot at the massive £50K Golden Reel prize and could well pocket £100k from both major events he’s qualified for.
Second on the day was John Hannan from peg 6 on the Match Lake.
John fished with casters shallow and meat short landing a fine bag of prime F1’s and carp to finish the day with 144-08-00.
Third placed Alan Dewhurst (Maver Midlands) drew peg 11 on the Island Lake and chose to fish the long pole with banded hard pellet across and tight to the island.
Alan recorded a weight of 141-10-00.
Fourth to the frame was Lee Riley (Bait Tec) from peg 1 on the Bridge Lake.
Lee fished worm down his edge feeding casters over the top to finish the day with 139-10-00.
Fifth placed John Ashwell drew peg 22 on the Bridge pool and chose to fish casters shallow and maggot down the edge landing carp and F1’s totalling 136-08-00.
Sixth to the frame was Shaun Cooke (Matrix) from peg 1 on the Island Lake with 134-10-00.
Shaun fished caster shallow and down his edge, feeding groundbait with corn hook bait.
Our thanks to Heron Brook for hosting the qualifier.
