The first of the 24 qualifiers took place at Larford Lakes with a sell out entry
Conditions today were not favourable with a heavy frost and a number of snow showers with heights rising no more than 6C
The first qualifier was set on both the Specimen and Match Lakes.
Winner on the day Paul Carnwell (Garbolino /Bait Tec) who drew peg 40 on the Specimen Lake.
Paul had a slow start finding a few skimmers and odd bream but half way through the match found the carp feeding down his edges over ground bait.
Fishing either a piece of corn or a full worm, Paul went on to land a number of big carp to 24lbs to finally weigh in 170-12-0 and book his place in the September Grand Final and a shot at the massive £50,000 winners prize.
Chasing him hard was local rod Ray Lamb who drew peg 26 on the Match Lake.
Ray fished virtually from the off down his edges on the pole catching on hard pellet, corn and dead reds recording a weight of 159-4-0 probably just two bites short of a qualification placing.
Ray qualifies for the semi-final so still in with a big shout to make the final.
3rd overall was Chris Senter (Mossella) from peg 1 on the Specimen Lake.
Chris started on the pellet waggler having spotted fish on the surface. After around 5 good carp on the waggler, switched to the 14.5m pole with hard pellet landing some more prime carp to finish the day with 153-15-0.
Chris also qualifies for the Semi-final.
4th placed Carl Brooks drew Match Lake peg 29 and caught well down his edges with corn over pellet to record an all carp and F1 catch tipping the scales at 152-1-0.
5th to the frame was Chris Lane from the Match Lake peg 30.
Chris caught all his carp and F1 catch on hard pellets fished over micro pellets tight down his edges recording a very decent 141-9-0.
So all in all, good weights recorded on a very difficult day weather wise.
Next qualifier – Woodlands Thirsk, Sunday 18th April.
