Temperatures rose to an alarming 35C for this latest qualifier added to this, both the Specimen and the Match Lake had hosted a five day festival and big open matches on the weekends before and after the festival.
Needless to say, intense heat, little or no breeze and substantial angling pressure made for a difficult match.
74 anglers were pegged around the Specimen and Match Lakes and it was Perry Stone (Cresta) who took the latest qualification place with 156-13-0 from peg 34 on the Match Lake.
Perry dobbed for some early carp with pellet, switched to the method casting to the island for a few more good carp and then found carp and F1’s short and down his edges to seal a close contest.
Second on the day and chasing Perry Stone all the way was welsh rod Richie Aherne (Freenzee).
Rich drew peg 35 on the Match Lake, landing 154-15-0 of carp and F1’s.
Richard fished the pellet waggler and dead reds over ground bait down his edges.
Second place secures a semi final placing so still a big chance to make September Grand Final.
Third in the frame was Paul (Tommy) Hiller (Daiwa) from peg 52 on the specimen lake.
At the start of the match, there was a substantial number of big carp showing so Tommy fished the pellet waggler, landing nine big carp that weighed 142-4-0 and securing a converted semi final placing.
Fourth overall was Connor Barlow (Guru) from peg 31 on the match lake.
Connor fished the pellet short and down his edges landing 132-10-0.
Fifth placed Tom Need landed 123-1-0 from peg 30 on the Match Lake, all caught on pole and pellet long and short plus a few late edge fish.
Sixth to the frame was Lee Thornton (Middy) from peg 4 on the Match Lake.
Lee fished pellet shallow and long for most of the match, weighing in 109-8-0.
