The latest qualifier hosted at Cambridgeshire’s Decoy Lakes was well attended with 70 anglers competing for the chance to make the prestigious September Grand Final.
Conditions for this latest qualifier were difficult to say the least with strong wind of up to 60 mph lashing the lakes for the full five hours of the competition.
Temperatures also tumbled to just 8C.
Everyone expected weights to tumble but true to from, Decoy produced some outstanding weights.
Winner today was Tom Edwards (Frenzee / Dynamite) who drew peg 15 on the Beastie Lake.
Tom decided to target the margins for the full 5 hours, fishing down his edge over micro pellet and worm hook bait to land a massive 238-14-00, securing his place in the September Grand Final.
Runner up today was last year’s finalist Andy Stepney from peg 12 on the Yew Lake.
Andy fished short and down his edges with pellet feed and maggot hook baits to record a weight of 222-11-00. Andy was only 2 carp short of the winner.
Third placed Sam Collett (Guru / Dynamite) recorded a weight of 214-02-00 from peg 17 on the Cedar Lake.
Sam fished dead reds over pellet down his edges, landing some superb carp to 12lbs.
Fourth to the frame was Dave Taylor (Spotted Fin) from peg 30 on the Beastie Lake.
Dave fished caster shallow and later down his edge with double worm to weigh in 209-02-00.
Fifth placed Simon Skelton (Dynamite / Melton Angling ) drew fancied peg 18 on the Oak Lake scaling in at 185-04-00.
Simon’s all carp catch came to edge tactics. Feeding micro pellets and fishing with expander pellets, Simon landed fish up to 12lbs.
Sixth overall was Jason Mackey from peg 5 on Beastie Lake.
Jason fished bomb & pellet and later down his edge with corn to weigh in 163-04-00.
So four weights over 200lbs and countless 100 lbs bags from the outstanding Decoy Lakes.
A big thank you to John and his staff at Decoy for hosting a truly excellent qualifier.
