The popular Viaduct Fishery hosted the latest Golden Reel Qualifier. Conditions for the match were bright with warm sunshine and highs of around 15C.
On the down side, there was little or no breeze and the week leading up to the qualifier had seen heavy rain changing both the colour and water temperature.
73 anglers took part hoping to clinch a coverted grand final placing and it was Welsh rod Ryan Morgan who took the honours.
Ryan drew peg 31 on the middle lake, which was a draw that was not fancied to frame.
Ryan fished the 16m pole with 6mm pellets to depth pinging pellets over the top.
The method proved to be effective landing quality carp steadily all match to finish the day with 126-04-00 and rewarded with a September finalist placing.
Second on the day was Ricky Mills from peg 110 on the fancied Campbell Lake.
Rick fished down his edges all match, again fishing 6mm pellet to depth landing 124-13-00. Just over a 1lb short of the winners weight.
Third placed Craig Challingworth (Catchy Baits) drew peg 90 on Carey, returning 115-11-00 to the scales.
Craig fished a simple match, fishing bomb & pellet which rewarded him with some quality carp.
Fourth on the day was Scott Puddy (Mossella / Bait Tec) from peg 77 on the Carey Lake.
Scott fished the long pole shallow constantly pinging pellets to land 114-04-00.
Fifth placed Derek Hartley weighed in 110-10-00 from peg 135 on Campbell.
Derek chose to fish the pole short and to depth with pellet. He also caught on bomb and pellet and late down his edges.
Sixth to the frame was Garry Oshea (Bait Tec) with 106-02-00 from peg 131 on Campbell.
Garry caught fishing the pole shallow with pellet.
So in all, a close match for the top six with just 20lbs separating the top 6.
A very big thank you to Steve and all the staff at Viaduct for hosting qualifier number 8.
